Women protest by wearing leggings after a mother with 4 sons begged them to stop wearing leggings (photos)

There's been an outrage and people are protesting after a Catholic mother with 4 sons wrote a letter asking women to stop wearing leggings for the sake of their sons.

The mother, who was identified as Maryann White, penned the letter titled, "The legging problem," which was published in The Observer, Notre Dame’s student newspaper (read here).

She told women to stop wearing leggings because leggings are "so naked, so form fitting, so exposing." She asked them to think of "their sons".

But a lot of people didn't appreciate her letter. It had just the opposite effect on students at the Indiana campus.

Conrad Palor, a sophomore at the university, penned a response to White’s letter that was published in The Observer. He titled it, The legging problem: A response.

He wrote: "While White’s comments were likely intended to be innocuous, they contribute to and further the narrative that women need to dress in order to not distract their male peers, which only furthers the sexualization and subsequent subjugation of women’s bodies."

A fellow Notre Dame mother, Heather Piccone, penned a letter to The Observer, pointing out that "if nakedness is wrong, then this woman’s sons better have been fully clothed at the beach at all times."

"They better never have played a game of “shirts versus skins” pick-up basketball or football in the park," she wrote.

To protest the letter, a Leggings Pride Day parade was organized by Irish 4 Reproductive Health, a campus nonprofit group. The group called on people to take part and post pictures of themselves wearing their favorite pair of leggings.

Many students posted pictures of their favorite leggings with the hashtag #LeggingsDayND.

"We wanted … to remind people that leggings are absolutely OK and you’re allowed to dress your body in whatever way you see fit," Anne Jarrett, 21, a student at Notre Dame, who helped organize the demonstration.

Other women protested by taking to various social media platforms to share photos of themselves wearing leggings.

Anne-Marie tweeted with photos of herself in Nike leggings: "a Catholic mom published an opinion in ND’s newspaper that leggings Lead Men Into Sin so we’re protesting our right to not be responsible for men and to not be constantly policed by morals or femininity #LeggingsDayND"

Men also took part in the protest by donning leggings.

A male Instagram user wrote: "let’s all try a bit harder to not shame people for what they choose to wear. Fashion is a multi-party activity. Sometimes it’s the observing party who needs a reality check. With love, from China."

Photo: Two-year-old girl goes missing from MFM church during service

Two-year-old Esther Ojo pictured above, has been declared missing after she disappeared while attending last Sunday's service at a Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries’ church at the Pen Cinema, Agege area in Lagos state with her parents.

Her distraught mother who spoke with Punch, said Esther had gone to the toilet to ease herself when she went missing.

“We went to the church together and I am one of the children’s teachers. As of 12.31pm, we were still together and I was cautioning her not to step on the child sleeping on the bed until someone called me and I left where she was.

“We were almost through with the second service and I was very busy because I was rounding off the programme. The other teachers told me that Esther said she wanted to urinate and a child of a church worker took her to the toilet. The girl was the one that used to help me with Esther whenever I was busy and Esther was already used to her.

“The girl said she placed my daughter on the potty and left her there when somebody sent her on an errand to buy pure water. When she returned from the errand, I asked after my daughter and she said when she checked her in the toilet, she was not there. Ever since then, we have been looking for Esther.

“We first reported the case at the Pen Cinema Police Station, and we have also gone to the Area ‘G’ Command and the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Alagbon. They promised to radio other stations, but they later said they had not heard anything about her.” she said

Confirming the incident, the lagos state police command spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, said investigation into the matter was ongoing.

“We got the report and we have launched an investigation into the matter. We are making efforts to locate her whereabouts,” he stated.

Chicago Police Union calls for probe into the way Jussie Smollett's case was handled by attorney Kim Foxx

The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police is not pleased with the way Jussie Smollett's charges were dropped and the group is calling for a probe of the prosecutor's intervention.

The Chicago Police Union has requested that the Department of Justice open an investigation into Cook County state’s attorney Kim Foxx’s handling of the Jussie Smollett case.

Foxx ultimately recused herself from the investigation, but only after asking Chicago Police Department superintendent Eddie Johnson to turn the case over to the FBI following request from one of Smollett’s relatives and a former Obama administration official, according to emails and text messages obtained by the Chicago Sun Times.

The unnamed relative of Smollett's was reportedly put in contact with Foxx by Tina Tchen, a private attorney who formerly served as chief of staff to Michelle Obama and as an assistant to Barack Obama.

Tina Tchen and Kim Foxx

In an email sent just two days after Smollett filed a false police report, Foxx reached out to Tchen to let her know that she had contacted Johnson, as Tchen had previously requested.

"Spoke to Superintendent Johnson. I convinced him to reach out to FBI to ask that they take over the investigation," Foxx wrote to Tchen.

"OMG this would be a huge victory," Tchen replied to a text message from Foxx containing the same information as was included in the email.

Foxx responded: "I make no guarantees but I’m trying."

The FBI never took control of the investigation, which resulted in Smollett’s being charged with disorderly conduct, but Fraternal Order of Police president Kevin Graham believes Foxx should be investigated for trying to interfere in the investigation, Yahoo reports.

"Private attorneys are not allowed to interfere with ongoing police investigations, particularly at the request of private individuals associated with subjects being investigated by the police," Graham wrote in a letter sent Friday to John R. Lausch, the U.S. attorney in Chicago, obtained by CWBChicago.

"In order for Ms. Foxx to properly charge and try this case, her entire office should have recused itself and a special prosecutor been appointed," Graham added.
